Overview of 3 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trek from Kigali
This 3 Days Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trek from Kigali combines two of Uganda’s most exciting primate experiences: mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park. Starting and ending in Kigali, Rwanda, this safari is ideal for travelers seeking a short but unforgettable East African primate adventure. The trip offers scenic drives through Rwanda and Uganda, rainforest experiences, wildlife encounters, and close interactions with endangered mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitats.
Day 1: Kigali – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Pick up from Kigali in the morning and transfer to Uganda via the Cyanika or Katuna border. Enjoy scenic views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, local villages, and the Virunga Mountains before continuing to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Arrive at the lodge for lunch, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay as you prepare for gorilla trekking the following day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – Transfer to Kibale National Park
After early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing before entering Bwindi Forest in search of mountain gorillas. Once the gorilla family is located, spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. After the trekking experience, return for lunch and begin the transfer to Kibale National Park through scenic landscapes of western Uganda. Arrive in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale – Return to Kigali
- After breakfast, head to Kibale National Park headquarters for a briefing before starting the chimpanzee tracking adventure in the tropical rainforest. Trek through the forest with guides and trackers while searching for habituated chimpanzees and other primates. After spending one hour with the chimpanzees, return for lunch and begin the drive back to Kigali for drop-off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport.
